We are a general legal practice and our solicitors are experienced in diverse areas of law. This enables us to undertake work in a wide range of matters.
Our particular specialities are detailed here, but we are also able to undertake many other types of work.
Please contact us to discuss your particular requirements. On the rare occasion that we cannot help, we are happy to refer you to a suitable specialist.
Leaving a Will helps to ensure that your Estate goes to the people and organisations that you choose. A Will is a legal document and it is important to ensure that it is correctly drawn up and executed. We are happy to call on clients at home or in hospital on request.
We are also able to assist the bereaved in obtaining a Grant of Probate and dealing with the administration of the Estate, including preparing Inheritance Tax returns. We can also advise on ways to reduce the liability to pay Inheritance Tax, such as varying the terms of an intended Will, or a post-death rearrangement, whereby a Will is effectively rewritten after death. In addition we provide advice and assistance in respect of Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection applications.
We are accredited members of the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme.
We undertake both residential and commercial conveyancing, and combine the speed and effectiveness of information technology and the internet with the experience and approachability of our solicitors and support staff, to provide a friendly and efficient service at a competitive price. By ensuring close contact between our clients and ourselves, we try to ensure that the process is as trouble-free as possible. All work is conducted by qualified solicitors with secretarial support.
Please contact Chris Barron or Paul O'Donnell for a quote. We are happy to chat with you on the phone about costs. When requesting a quote by e-mail, please include a contact telephone number, as one of our conveyancing solicitors will call you to ensure that the quote is tailored to your particular transaction.
Our solicitors have a wealth of experience of both conveyancing and litigation. As a consequence, we are willing and able to take on those difficult cases involving disputes over property ownership and use, boundaries, and nuisance.
Problems over relationships occur all too frequently and we recognise both the emotional and financial strains of dealing with these. We deal sympathetically with the issues whilst protecting the client's interests, and do not hesitate to take a robust approach when necessary.
Over recent years the public has been bombarded with advertisements in this area, and many nationwide organisations have been set up to actively seek out business, which they sell on to solicitors for a referral fee. We do not pay referral fees!
Most of our work comes from recommendations from satisfied clients. As a local firm we provide qualified face-to-face legal advice from experienced and sympathetic solicitors, and offer a variety of funding options.
At the outset we will provide an objective view of the merits and value of each claim, and advice on the most appropriate funding option in the circumstances. We offer no win, no fee arrangements and Legal Costs Insurance and will ensure that there are no unexpected costs deducted from any settlement.
We understand the daily pressures placed on local businesses, having provided support for many business clients over the years. Whether it be a lease; a company formation; a business sale; or a contractual dispute, we are able to offer an accessible and cost effective service.
We also represent businesses in prosecutions for regulatory breaches.
With twenty years' experience of providing legal services to the local authority, in 2015 we entered into an exclusive Legal Framework Agreement with Barrow Borough Council. We also provide services to other local authorities on an ad-hoc basis. Our expertise includes, but is not limited to, Planning, Licensing, and Procurement.
With an Assistant Coroner at the firm, we are ideally placed to provide assistance to families or businesses at any stage of the inquest process (only available for inquests taking place outside Cumbria).
